The main reason as to why there is so many environmental issues in Vietnam is due to the effects of the Vietnam War. Over the past few years, Vietnam has struggled to maintain a healthy looking environment and this is why-
- The majority of trees that were cut down by the Vietnamese were used for building,
firewood and selling abroad
- When the trees in the forests were cut down, rare plants and animals died out and the soil became eroded more easily.
- However, tree projects and planting trees is a current project to help the forests restore back to their own glory
- Weather can cause problems- in 2000 (September) terrible floods in the Mekong delta killed 100 people on average.
- Overfishing off of the eastern coast that contains seabed minerals and diverse marine life can threaten the surrounding wildlife.
- There is a lot of water pollution in the Mekong Delta, which results in high rates of diarrhea.
- Acid rain is damaging and potentially deadly to the earth’s fragile ecosystems, it contains harmful levels or sulfur dioxide or nitrogen oxide.
